Aesthetic treatments on vacation in Playa del Carmen: what's safe before the beach or a flight

Many people use their vacation in Playa del Carmen to get an aesthetic treatment. It makes sense: you have time, the pace is relaxed, and prices are usually more accessible than in the US or Canada. But not every treatment mixes well with sun, ocean and flights. This guide helps you plan without surprises.
The basic rule: sun, water and downtime
Before booking any treatment, think about three things:
- Sun: some treatments leave the skin sensitive for days and need strict sun protection.
- Ocean and pool water: skin with open wounds or scabs shouldn't go in salt water or chlorine.
- Days left on your trip: some results take a few days to settle, so it's better to do them early.
Treatments that fit easily into your vacation
- Massages (relaxing, lymphatic drainage, deep tissue): zero downtime. Perfect after a beach day or a long flight.
- Facial or body HIFU: no needles, no wounds. You may have mild redness for a few hours; with sunscreen you can carry on with your trip.
- Botox®: about 20-30 minutes and you walk out with no marks. Book it early in your trip, since the effect settles between day 3 and day 7.
- Cryolipolysis: no wounds, and you can go back to your plans the same day.
Treatments that need a bit more planning
- Laser tattoo removal: the area can blister or scab. It shouldn't get sun or go in the ocean or pool until it heals. The best time is at the end of your trip.
- Laser hair removal: freshly tanned skin raises the risk of irritation. Do it before you tan, not after a week at the beach.
- CO₂ laser and peels: skin stays sensitive for several days and needs strict sun protection. If your trip is all beach, it may not be the right moment.
- Thread lift and fillers: mild swelling or bruising is possible in the first days. Avoid sauna, intense exercise and facial massage for the first week.
Can I fly after a treatment?
In general, yes. Massages, HIFU, cryolipolysis, Botox® and fillers don't stop you from flying. With Botox®, the only advice is to avoid lying face-down or pressing the area for the first few hours. If you had a laser treatment, keep the area covered and protected on your way home.
Which day of your trip should you book?
- At the start: Botox®, fillers, thread lift and HIFU, so you see the result before you leave and have time for any questions.
- Any time: massages and cryolipolysis.
- At the end: tattoo removal and laser treatments that require avoiding sun and water.
